Easy Homemade Frozen Tropical Pineapple Dog Treats

The spring and summer days will be here before we know it, and with it, those blistering hot days where you can almost fry an egg on the sidewalk. If I’m melting, I know my two Aussies are feeling it even more with their thick coats. So, I’ve been on a mission to find a great treat to help them beat the heat. And guess what? I found the perfect solution: homemade frozen pineapple dog treats.

Yes, you heard that right—pineapple. It’s like a little tropical vacation in a treat, and my dogs are absolutely obsessed with them. Plus, I always feel better about giving my pups more natural dog treats rather than the store-bought dog treats with ingredients I can’t even pronounce.

Can Dogs Eat Pineapple?

  1. Pineapple: This juicy tropical fruit is not only a hit taste-wise with most dogs but also packs a nutritional punch. Pineapples contain a surplus of vitamins (like Vitamin C) and minerals (including manganese), contributing to your dog’s immune system. The enzyme bromelain, found in pineapple, aids in digestive health, making it a guilt-free treat to your dog’s diet. However, moderation is key due to its high natural sugars,  always serve it peeled and cored to avoid any digestive issues.

Can Dogs Drink Coconut Water?

  1. Coconut Water: A hydrating powerhouse, coconut water is a great way to keep your dog hydrated, especially during hot days. It’s loaded with electrolytes, a small amount of calcium, potassium, and magnesium, which can help maintain proper fluid balance and support heart and kidney health. Unlike coconut milk, which is high in fat, coconut water offers these benefits with a lower fat content, making it a lighter option. However, it should be given in moderation to avoid any stomach upset, and always opt for natural, unsweetened coconut water with no artificial sweeteners.

  1. To make frozen pineapple dog treats, blend 1 cup of fresh pineapple, 1/2 cup of plain Greek yogurt, and 1/4 cup of coconut water until smooth.
  2. For a little extra pizazz, I cut up some pineapple pieces and placed it into the mold before I poured in the mixture.
  3. Pour the mixture into silicone molds or ice cube trays, using measuring cups for easy transfer. Freeze for 2 hours before serving. This frozen treat is perfect for cooling down our four-legged friends on a hot day!

My Tips for Making the Perfect Pineapple Pupsicles

  1. Go Fresh or Go Home: Seriously, when it comes to homemade dog treats, natural ingredients are the only way to go. Skip those syrupy cups of fruit cocktail pineapple or canned pineapple – your pup deserves the real deal. Fresh pineapple means they’re getting all the good stuff, like vitamins and that super cool enzyme, bromelain, without any of the “added sugar” nonsense.
  2. Treat Stick Trick: Here’s a little hack I absolutely adore – using a long dog treat as the popsicle stick. Genius, right? It’s like a bonus treat after they’ve slurped up their pupsicle. This trick is a game-changer, especially if you’re using those deeper ice cube trays. Next time I make these, I am definitely doing this hack.
  3. Everything in Moderation: Remember, these are treats, not dinner. Although these are considered more on the “healthy treats” side of things, too much of the good stuff can lead to an upset stomach, and we’re not about that life. Keep it balanced, keep it moderate and feed these frozen doggie treats in small amounts.

How Long Do the Frozen Pineapple Dog Treats Take to Freeze?

These frosty pineapple delights need about 2-3 hours in the freezer. That’s the sweet spot for achieving the perfect popsicle consistency that your furry friend will love.

How Long Can I Store These Pupsicles?

You can keep these pupsicles fresh and ready for a treat time for up to 1 month. Just ensure they’re snugly sealed in a freezer-safe bag or container to maintain their yumminess.

I am not a veterinarian, just a dog mom who loves making her own dog treats at home. With that said, always be cautious when giving your dog new food especially if your dog has very specific dietary needs. If your dog is prone to allergic reactions or other health conditions/health problems please ask your vet before giving them a new treat. Every dog has their own unique nutritional needs.
