Homemade Frozen Peanut Butter and Jelly Dog Treats

peanut butter and jelly dog treats

Who doesn’t love the timeless charm of a classic PB&J sandwich?  Unfortunately, the sugary sweetness of a human PB&J just won’t do for our pups. So, of course, I wanted to create a dog-friendly version but with a frozen twist. These peanut butter and jelly dog treats are made from peanut butter (no xylitol, just peanuts is best), coconut oil, and fresh blueberries and do not include all the added sugar like the regular version.

Can I use frozen blueberries instead of fresh ones?

Fresh ones will be better to mash. If frozen, you can let them thaw before mashing.

How do I know when the blueberry “jelly” is mashed enough?

Mash the blueberries until they reach a smooth consistency, similar to jelly. Try to eliminate as many clumps as possible.

Can I use a different type of mold if I don’t have silicone molds?

Silicone molds are definitely best when it comes to this recipe, however you can use an ice cube tray as an alternative.

Can I substitute the blueberries with another fruit, like strawberries?

Yes, feel free to substitute the blueberries for strawberries if your dog prefers more of a strawberry flavor. Just make sure the fruit you choose is dog-friendly before using it. DO NOT USE GRAPES. They are highly toxic to dogs.
